“NEVER AFRAID, ALWAYS AWARE”
About #13ReasonsWhy S2, remember this type of TV series are great conversation openers among teenagers.
Tips 1. Ask open ended questions about the series (why is the character doing that?) keep it about the characters, not your teen. 2. Follow up the conversation with comments like: “Wow, is that really how HS is? Do you know people like that?”
3. Let them talk as much as they want. Try to listen with your heart and if you can’t... just pretend to be engaged. Sounds awful but it happens.
4. Do not lecture your children in the middle of the show. Children are less likely to listen to their parents when they have their minds busy on other things.
5. Share your feelings and your concerns. Show your human side, not the wonder women or Super Man side.
6. Stay in control. Do not over react. Think twice before talking but keep the conversation real and authentic. Remember they watch movies that are more violent and bloody.
7. When posible, watch season 1 before inviting your teen to watch the series together 👍 understand the plot first.
8. If you are in “not taking terms” with your teen, start watching the series and wait for your teen to join you! Don’t expect any conversation at the beginning! But be sure that by the end of the series you will have a closer relationship.
9. Do not criticize teenagers in front of your teen child. They belong to the same “tribe”. You criticize one, and all of them get offended.
10. Negotiate how many episodes will be allowed per day. Understand that teens will find a way to watch it with or without your permission. Be realistic.
11. Do not spoil the moment, by passing your fears into your children... “Never Afraid, Always Aware”. Please share
